Finding My Place in the Lakes: A Journey to Well-Being

Hi everyone, I'm Hannah. I grew up in Greater Manchester, with visits to The Lake District multiple times a year. Every time I came to The Lakes, I felt calm, peaceful, and that I could take a deep breath. Everything felt completely at ease - which led to me viewing the area as a safe haven for me. It became my goal to live in The Lake District, and that dream steered my interests and the things I decided to pursue as a career. The Lake District was so much more than just a beautiful place to spend the week, it was a place that made me feel calm and grounded.

When I had the opportunity to move here permanently at 19, it was hard to say no. It was everything I dreamed about for so many years, I never dreamed that I would be able to accomplish that dream of mine before I turned 20. Life since living in The Lakes has been transformative. It's a place where I've always felt like the best version of myself, and now everyday is a day I can feel like that about myself. Studying a degree in Outdoor Education at the University of Cumbria connected the dots of why I felt like this. I learnt in depth about my connection to nature, and my eyes were opened to how deeply rooted it was in me. My studies opened my eyes to the science behind what I’d always instinctively known: that being in green spaces isn’t just enjoyable—it’s vital for mental and emotional health.

This realization became the foundation for Field of Mind. I wanted to create something that would allow others to experience the benefits of nature that had been so important to me. I’ve always believed that everyone deserves a space where they can feel calm, confident, and capable, and I knew the outdoors could provide that.

With Field of Mind, I’ve combined my love for the natural world with my passion for helping others. Our activities are designed to not only reconnect people with nature but also to help them reconnect with themselves. Whether it’s through mindful walks, creative sessions, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the outdoors, my hope is to provide a space where people can slow down, breathe, and rediscover their strength.

The Lakes gave me a sense of purpose and clarity when I needed it most. With Field of Mind, I want to share that gift with as many people as possible—because sometimes, all it takes is stepping outside to change how you feel inside.
